(CP) — TheCanadian Amateur Hockey Association will soon have its first full-time president.The CAHA decided unanimously at its annual ineetinK Tue.sday that the position of president is no longer a part-time position to be handled on a voluntary basis.The restructuring of the CAHA now leaves the president responsible to the Ixiard of directors with a chairman in charge. The duties of the executive director remain unchanged.Oord Renwick of Cambridge, Ont., .serving his final term as president, .said a country-wide search for the new president would bt^gin immediately. Renwick said neither he nor vice-president Frank McKinnon would apply for the position. McKinnon would have been Renwick’s succes.sor under the old format.Renwick, 44, who has been on the CAHA executive for 10 years, received theCAHA meritorious award at a dinnerTuesday night.The CAHA executive of the year award also went to an Ontario hockey man. Clarence (Tubby) Schmalz of Walk-erton, former commissioner of the Ontario Major Junior Hockey League and a nominee for CAHA vice-chairman, was honored at the dinner.Former president Jack Devine and Cordon Juckes, former executive director, were given life-time memberships, while representatives from each of the five national championship teams were also honored.Bill Abt*rcrombie of Fetrolia Squireswas given a watch as the most valuable player in the Allan Cup senior A final series against Steinbach Huskies.Others given awards were Fiart Hunter of I^ortland Winter Hawks (Memorial Cup-Major Junior A); Dunston Carroll of Sherwood-i’arkdale, N.S., Metros (Centennial Cup-Tier 2 junior A); Remi lA'vesque of Moncton, N.B., Hawks (Hardy Cuplntermediate A); and Mario Dore of St. Foy, (iue. (Air Canada Cup-midget).Edmonton’s Randy Bucyk, nephew of Johnny Bucyk, former National Hockey lA‘ague star with Floston Bruins, was named minor player of the year.In other business Tuesday;• Jim Kinkley of Toronto, former president of the Ontario Minor Hockey Association, was appointed to the CAHA executive as a director for minor hockey. Kinkley replaces Cliffe Phillips, who resigned his post.• The executive rejected a re.solution that would have allowed juvenile hockey to have three years of eligibility instead of the pre.sent two.• Rule change amendments for the 1979-80 and 1980-81 seasons as approved at the semi-annual meeting were given “rubber-stamp” approval.• Any championship team wishing to retain the trophy until June 15 must post a bond or certified cheque for $2,000 to en.sure the return of the trophy to the Hockey Hall of Fame.The annual meeting continues until Friday.
