2Montreal Second ChoiceTraildtiri4PutiOTTAWA (CP)—Trail Smoke Eaters were invited Tuesday to represent Canada at the world hockey championships next season.Delegates to the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association's annual meeting approved a resolution asking the 1961-62 Allan Cup champions to wear Canada’s colors in the tourney.Gordon J u c k e s, secretary-manager of the CAHA, told delegates that Trail team officials have informed him the Smoke Eaters are willing to make the European trip if suitable financial arrangements can be made with the association.The invitation to Trail was the highlight of CAHA sessions Tuesday, the third of the five-day session. «Delegates swung their attention to international hockey but steered clear of the Olympics. Although slated to be discussed, it was deferred until Thursday.Delegates followed CAHA practice in picking the senior champions for the world games. But at the request of president Jack Roxburgh, the selection of another club, if Trail should decide not to make the trip, was left open.Roxburgh asked delegates“not to tie the hands of yourexecutive” when a motion was introduced calling on the CAHA to select Montreal Olympics for the trip if Trail didn't go. Olympics are Eastern Canada champions and were defeated by Smoke Eaters in the final.The delegates also approvedIntermediateNod To WestOTTAWA (CP)—Delegates to the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association’s annual meeting Tuesday decided that the future intermediate hockey champions of Western Canada will be Canadian champions.The delegates unanimously approved a motion moved by the Thunder Bay branch.But the CAHA stipulated that the Western champions could be challenged by any eastern club which decided it wanted to enter intermediate finals.Canadian tours for teams from Russia and Czechoslovakia next season. The Russians will play in Eastern Canada between Nov. 14 and Nov. 30. The Czechoslovakian team will tour Western Canada but dates have not yet been decided.Tom Lockhart, president of the Amateur Hockey Association of the United States told delegates that his organization now believed that East Germany had no intention of attending the world hoc-key championships held in Colorado I Springs last February.Bob Lebel, past-presideqt of the CAHA and president of the International Ice Federation, told delegates that up to Feb. 3. a few days before the world tournament was to be played, he had decided to call the games off because of the East i German incident.“On Feb. 3 I received a letter and that alone influenced me to have the games go on,” he said.He would not say who wrote ! the letter.“It’s in my private file and is to be turned over to my son upon my death,” he said.lrd'lrlrgJflt;vbPcPPtl0ppbt1Itsbacsrt! sH*i i
