Spirits' MacKinnon MovesST. LOUIS (UPI) - Bob MacKinnon, who coached the fledging Spirits of St. Louis to a startling upset of the New York Nets in. the American Basketball Association playoffs this year, Tuesday accepted a position as general manager of his old club, the Buffalo Braves.MacKinnon, 47, was an assistant coach at Buffalo before he was picked to initiate the Spirits in their first year in St. Louis.He was credited with settling the team's rookies, especially Marvin Barnes, and the Spirits dumped the Nets in the playoffs. The team had lost all 11 regular* season games to New York and dropped the first playoff game before coming back with four straight wins.St. Louis, which was 32-52 in regular-season play, eventually lost to the Kentucky Colonels in the series.Rudy Martzke, director of operations for the Spirits, said of MacKinnon’s departure, “I think the big factor is that he’s lived in Buffalo all but one year of his life. He and his family have many friends there.”“I think he did a great job considering all the young players and rookies on the club,” Martzke said. “And beating the Nets in the playoff was one of the big upsets in sports.**
