DeAnda Top TracksterWhile track enthusiasts were predicting that Silver City Anthony-Gadsden, Deming and Portales would finish in the top of the state AAA meet, they neglectedjo take into account a strong, determined Los Lunas Tiger team and Ivan DeAnda.Silver City won the meet with 47 points and Los Lunas with “fantastic DeAnda, who was picked as the top AAA track man, as anchor, came from behind to take second with 35 points. Portales was third with 31 andArtesia fourth with 17Vi.DeAnda was first in the 100-yard dashwith a time of :10.19 and first in the 220 with a time of :22.19. Then as anchor man on the mile relay team, helped Mike Jenrette, Danny Gallegos and Chuck Aragon with that victory.Their time was 3:26.03.DeAnda. a senior, had run the 100-yard dash in 9.56 in the preliminaries on Friday. In the broad jump, DeAnda went 21 ft.,41: in. to finish fifth. His total individual score w as 17 : points to give him the state title.Danny Gallegos, also a senior, finished second in the 440 with a time of 50.2 and sophomore Chuck Aragon was second in the 880 thriller in which he finished .03 behind the winner with a time of 1:59.64. Paul St. Germain finished fourth in the mile.
