Bombers SwampMemphis SundayIn Season OpenerBy Leigh SimplonThe Brookfield Bomber# went into first place in the Ban Johnson League Sunday night by overwhelming Memphis, the new member, 24 - 2.Duckworth worked five innings,allowed one hit and one run andthen Linscoti took over and al* lowed a scratch hit and one run. Only four Memphis players adorn* ed the base paths during the three hours arid fifteen minutes of a contest that hail few thrills but lots of spills.The Bombers played errorless baseball. Durkwdrth struck out ten and walked one. while Linscoti struck out five and walked one The offense was not devastating as only nine hits were garnered by the Bombers, but Memphis supplied what they lacked, with eleven bases on halls, two hit batsmen, fourteen errors and many errors of the mental type.The Bombers started off with a bang, scoring four in the first inning from two hits. They scored seven in the third from three hits, six in the fourth off onq hit butin between those hits, thirteenstolen base.4. The bombers wererunnirig the bajjes with r«ie abandon and giving the fans the class of baseball they likfe. Roberts led the. hit parade with two singles and a double in six times up. and Sights helped his .600 average with two hits, in two times up. Smart also began hitting, with two out of three.Manager Jack Murphy saw the boys all got action, with Kail taking over for Smart at 'hird. Burg-cner relieving Neighbors in left, Linscott taking over the mound from Duckworth, Green taking over second for Preston, Bradleygiving Sights a rest in right, Johnny Smith helping Stewart in the catching chore, and Quigley taking over for Caldwell in center.
