Bruins, East Idaho Schools Shun State MeetCoach Hank Powers and the eight Twin Falls Bruins who qualified at the district meet in Rupert last Friday will be missing from th’e track and field extravaganza of the Idaho State High School Athletic association Saturday at the University of Idaho, Moscow.The announcement that the Bruins would be missing from the big event was made by the coach after the eight eligible.'; at a meeting decided to pass it up—thus allowing several of their number to participate in the graduation exercises at the high school Friday night.Four of the athletes will graduate,“If we made the trip to Moscow,it would mean that we would have to leave Thursday,’* Powers said, thus making it impossible for the four to take part in the graduation exercises with the others in the class,It is not? known whether any of the other Magic Valley athletes, hailing from seven schools, will passup the state meet in which Coach George Hays* Rupert squad has a good chance of gaining the state crown.However, none of the eastern Idaho schools, including Pocatello, Idaho Falls and Preston, will compete. Instead they, will hold a inter-district meet at Idaho State collegeThursday.Many superintendents and coaches were irked at the state athletic association’s board of control for ignoring their rccommcdation tion that the state meet be held May 17 so that it would not Interfere with the various commencement exercises.
