]e3YetFt1iiiftYf1Irlta)1) \WITH THE BIG LEAGUERSContinuing to back good pitching with terrific slugging the New York Americans still lead the American League with 20 wins, and only eight defeats for a percentage of .714. Philadelphia displaying a punch, the like of which has not been seen in them for years, took four straight games from Cleveland, pushed Speaker’s crew out of second place and moved into the new quarters themselves. Ed Rommel pitched the Mackmen to two victories over Cleveland. Ruth slammed out his seventh homer of the season, his two hundredth of his big league career Saturday. In the National League, New York continues to have things its own way, enjoying a 157 point lead over St. Louis who sprang to life and landed second place. A feature of the National League play was the return of Dick Rudolph, the hero of the 1914 World’s Series, who pitched his first full game for more than a year, shutting out Pittsburg 1 to 0. Many pitchers battles were staged last week and close games were the order of the past seven days in the old league.HIGH SCHOOL MEETttI(Continued from pare 1)Of interest to local fans is the showing made by the Doane squad, which ranked fifth with a total of 16 points, all of them coming in the field events. The shot put netted the Academy 7 points when Gregory and Hamilton took second and third in the event. Gregory continued his good work by registering third in the discus and fifth in the javelin. Hammond’s winning leap of 19 feet, 5 inches in the broad jump boosted the Doane score to 16 where it remained for the day.Class B Also GoodAshley with 56 points led the way for the teams of Class B, which included schools with an enrollment of less than 150 boys. Bellepoint took second with 41 points followed by Prospect with 32. Gobby Clark’s squad from Williamsport finished a good fourth with 31 counters. The athletes of Class B proved to be superior to those of the other division in the field events, marking up better records in four of the six contests decided on the field. Anson of Prospect cleared the bar in the high jump at 5 feet 11 inches, 1-2 inch better than the present Denison record.Carter of Ashley stood out as high point man with 18 points, having taken firsts in the 100 and 220, second in the high hurdles, third in the low hurdles and fifth in the high jump. McMillen of Bellepoint with firsts in the shot DUt, pole vault and discus fol-owed with 15 tallies. Anson of Prospect and Smith of Williamsport were tied for third in the scoring, each having 13 points. Some 200 of the best high school athletes in central Ohio took part in the meet, eighteen high schools being represented. The meet was handled in a very efficient manner, all the events being run off on scheduled time. The finals in the field events and the preliminaries in the dashes and hurdles were held in the morning. The finals in all the track events were run off in the afternoon in connection with the Denison-Oberlin meet. The meet was similar to eight others which were being held in various parts of the state for the purpose of qualifying contestantsfor the Ohio inter-scholastic meet which is to be held in Columbus next Saturday. The first two men in each event are permitted to enter the finals of the big meet. The summary:Field EventsHigh Jump—Class A: 1. Finta, South; 2. Dowds, Mt. Vernon; 3. Barnes, Westerville; 4.
