SPEED BOVS IN FIRST DEFEAT*¥In a loose but interesting contest, tiie locals lost their first game of the season to the fast French Lick Plutos by a score of 13 to 3, Sunday after-. noon at Coffman’s Park before a crowd of seven hundred loyal fans. The colored visitors were too strong for the home boys, although the later presented them with half their runs by costly bobbles.Stewart did the mound work and after all made a very creditable showing, holding the hard hitting visitors to eight swats, but his support wobbled at critical periods. The Plutos * %seemed to be able to hit when they were needed and tightened down when rhe locals got men on.The locals were minus the services of Purcell their regular slabbist and Steward is on the sick list with a broken toe. White, a newcomer from the Kitty league, worked behind the bat and showed up well, considering that he never caught a game before. He played a brilliant game Saturday and would be a good addition to the local club. He will stay here if he* can get work. Souter played his usual spectacular game at short and is deserving of great praise. Dudley kept up his phenomenal slugging.Summary—2 base bits—Haskett, Burkes, ITustin, Gillard, Heath. 3 base hits Dudley. Struckout, Stewart 7, Burkes 6. Stolen bases, Wible Dudley, White, Miller, Bingham, Hannon, Hocker. Time 2 hours. Umpire Cozart.SPEEPROYS WIN OPENERIn Saturday’s game with the Plutos the Speedboys won 11 to 10 by a ninth inning rally.
