High Stakes, 'Kicks' At IRCC Karate AffairA total of LI5 trophies wfll be awarded in the Southern Exposure Karate Tournament Saturday at the Indian River Community College gym.The tourney, wbicb « sponsored by John’s Dojo at Merritt island and Fire Dragon of Stuart, will have competition In Kumite light contact sparring, and Kala, Use form aspect of karate.Divisions include men's, women’s and under lft-yeas-old Trophies will be given for the top three places in all Kala competition. The top four finishers in men's black belt will receive trophies, tn the men’s brawn belt, green belt and white belt, the top three will lake trophies.Black belt divisions for men include heavyweight, light heavyweight, middleweight and lightweight. Brown, green and white divisions also have super lightweight. Women’s groups are broken down to heavyweight and lightweight. For the under !$ competitors there are junior boys U2-1S], junior girls (12-151, pee wees 19-11) and mini pee wees (8 and under).' ’[)ie®ntrT£or Ike Junior and pee wee divisions and $10 tor all other divisions. Admission for spectators is $2 for adults and *1 for children funder 12),Registration begins at 10 a.m. Black belt Kala starts at lj a m. Rata and Kumite for juniors and pee wees beginsat noon. All other division competitors are to be present at 1:30 p.m.Tournament directors are John Prevail, Laura Mayer, Jim Wilson and Jan Wilson. Also present will be Nelson Parrett, third degree black belt, Jon Krai, second degree, and Guy Frazer, first degree. The three are from the IRCC class.Among the black belt members of the IRCC karate class are David Luke. Curtis Arnett, Lawrence Virgin and Gary White Frazer is the instructor at IRCC.Mike Graves, instructor of the Chito Ryu Karate School In Fort Pierce said this is the first such tournament in this town with schools from all over (he state entered In the competition.Fun and experience are stressed in the tournament with the low registration fees. All sparring competitors will be officially weighed-in at the time of registration and weights recorded as ol that time.
