SMITH’S TRACKMENlt;1Win Class B Cinder Touma-i;ment Saturday AtItDelaware *The winfcing of the annual districttrack and field meet at Delaware lasttSaturday by the local squad, was asurprise, not only to those competing,but to the people of Granville.(fThe High' school boys went over 2with the intention of showing what sthey had, and they proved to have Imorf talent in their team than thev cthought.In the century event, Granville rplaced a fifth, Lytle getting a badstart. But to this one point was added afive more when Doc Owen ran the t220 in 24 seconds, equalling the record.Showing the making of a real runner, eJohnson ran the 440 in the time of c 551-4 seconds, barely missing the v standing record of 55 seconds. He ran b a beautiful race, finishing 15 yards \Iahead of his nearest competitor.The high jump ih the Class B division went to the height of 5 feet, 8e1lt;inches, Wat Rogers getting a thirdplace out of it, jumped 5 feet, 5 inches.His brother, Bernard Rogers, tying with two others for fourth place,jumped 5 feet, 4 inches.In the broad jump B, Rogers andW. Rogers placed second and fifth, respectively.The relay was easily won by WalnutTownship runners, the team beingcomposed of four Teagarden brothers.For second place, Granville outran,by but a very small margin, the Liberty Union outfit. This second placegave Granville 4 points, and the meet.As winners of Class B Division,Granville received a pretty cup. It willappear on display in Stewart’s jewelrystore window, as another of the awards that Granville has won.On Saturday, May 22, the track team g goes to the state meet at Columbus.
