STAFFORD - Defending Modified champ “Bugsy Stevens wheeled the Koszella Vega into victory lane Saturday night for the second time in three weeks. Stevens came from 18th starting spot to take the lead on lap 21 of the 30-lap NASCARModified feature.First heat winner was Bob Potter, with Ron Bouchard second followed by Jerry Dostie,Miller, Cleary and Santos.The second heat was won by Fred DeSarro feature winner Bodine, followed by Austin, Gleaves, Stevens, last week's feature winner Bodine and Hewitt.Third heat winner was Fred Schulz with Holdrige second, followed by Flemke, Bobby Vee, Tom Cassella and Brian Ross.The Consi was won by John Rosati with Sal Dee second, Becker, Kennedy, Dorman,Evonsion, Frank Naumec and Ron Cote filling the rest of the qualifing spots.Bob Potter, starting on the outside pole in the Frank Smith Pinto, led from the start of the race through two caution periods. The first, on lap three, was for a first-turn crash involving Joe Kennedy, I^ennv Cleaves and Moose Hewitt. At the halfwavmmark, Bouchard trailed Potter, followed bv Bobby Vee, Fred DeSarro, Jerry Dostie, and Stevens. Within three laps, “Da Bug had taken over third, then moved by Bouchard on lap 19.and Potter on the 21st lap. A laplater, Sal Dee tangled with Frank Naumec and Tom Caseila in turnin the l^en Boehler Vega, took second from Bouchard and held itfor eight laps, checkeredBut as theflag dropped,Bouchard’s Bob Johnson Pinto inched ahead at the wire to finish second, leaving Fred DeSarro to finish third. Bobby Vee’s Gremlin hung in for fourth, with Ray Miller in the Bill Simons Pinto taking the fifth spot.John Rosati, Consi winner, finished ninth with the only small block in the main event. Rosati‘s ride, the Kevin Coahn No. 73, was the only coupe and the only Ford-powered car in the field.In the All-American Sportsman feature, Keith Williams came out of a tenth-lap crash, last on the field, to take the lead four laps later and grab his second victory in a row. Mike D'A vino was second and Wayne Tack third.In the Mini-Midget Division: the 20-lap feature was won by car No. 1 driven by Dick Wright.
