Nign wins again at MidvaleMIDVALE — From reading the headlines, area auto racing fans might think Joe Nign is the only driver in the late model division at Midvale Speedway.The big blond from Leesville won another 30-lap feature Saturday night ahead of Rich Rohrer of Canton. Doc Dixon of Sherrodsville, Mike Gilland of New Philadelphia and Ron Hoopingarner of Dennison rounded out the top five.Nign took the lead from early pacesetter Roger Linard of New Philadelphia on the ninth lap. then held of Rohrer and Dixon to the finish line.He also won the dash while Rohrer won the pursuit. Gilland, Rich Schweitzer of Barnhill and Randy Gray of Uhrichsville took the late model heats. Rohrer also reset the track qualifying record for the third straight week, although the time was not immediately available.Gary Rose of North Salem won the figure eight feature. Preliminary victories in that divisionwent to Chuck Harris of Canton and Richard McKim of Kimbolton.Ken Carroll of New Philadelphia won the “A” feature and Brad Kreisher of Dover the “B feature in spectator stock action. Kreisher, Ed Bair of New Philadelphia and Randy Dingier of Dellroy won the heats.This Saturday’s program will be highlighted by a 50-lap Memorial Day championship for late models. Time trials start at 6:15 with racing at 8:15.
