Bodychecking may be goneTORONTO (CP) — A rule eliminating bodychecking from the Pee Wee (12 years old) level and under is among several major rule changes to be considered at the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association’s annual meeting which begins on Sunday in Edmonton.Lightweight pucks, straight-bladed sticks, smaller ice surfaces and other modifications are being recommended for players 10 and under.Several jurisdictions, including (he Metropolitan Toronto Hockey League, already have adopted the no-bodychecking rule for Minor PeeWee (11 years) and below for next season. The CA11A proposal would force the Ontario Minor Hockey Association, which rejected a no-bodychecking rule last season, to adopt the regulation. The revisions from the Atom level down are coming from the CAHA's action committee, headed by former association president (Jordon Renwiek Thecommittee feels the regulation ice surface is too large for players of this age and will recommend splitting the rink at the red line and playing two games side by side, across the rink. The committee also will recommend that slapshots be banned for players 10 and under.Another consideration is a rule which would do away with faceoffs, other than those needed to start a period. Instead, the puckwould be given to the non-offending team.
