The : Echo's Teen of Uu* Week came in second in the nation in the Punt, Pass and Kick Contest when he was nine-years-old and a Noonan School fifth grader.After he proved his ability in area contests, Bert compel- ; ed in Dallas to win the national jhonor. He remembers this wasa big time in his life. Bovs participating were introduced to j all of the members of the Dal- ;las Cow bo vs, and this was a !*thrill for the youngsters. iCompetitive football wasn’t offered when Bert was a seventh grader at Memorial. When an eighth grader our teen lettered for the Memorial Mustangs, ran track and played basketball. The next year he lettered in football, again and played basketball.Bert was on the Junior Varsity football team when a WAHS sophomore, played Varsity baseball and lettered for his team.Last year, Bert played football and baseball for the Varsity. He played Varsity football this year in the guard position. Currently the teen has a keeninterest in the Virtlt} ba*e»ball team’s change this sear.“We’re looking good and I think” he said, “We have a fine chance of winning bi-dis-tiict. We’ll know after this next week just how good we are.” He played catcher for the team.Bert, is taking English IV,typing, spe*ch and AmericanGovernment at WAHS this year and named American (.o\t*m-ment as his choice.The teen said he does notget an allowance. His parents,Mr. and Mrs. Bert Steindorf of 430 W. Fifth, give him money he needs.In return, Bert keeps the yardat home and does the usualchores designated for a teenager b parents. Bert worked fur his dad last summer and purchased a car with hi- earning s. He sas keeping up his car uses up what he earned last summer.Steak was named b\ the teen as his favorite food and helikes blue.
