Pro Gridders Seeking$12,000 Minimum PayATLANTA {UPI)-A National Football League management committee, headed by Art Modell of the Cleveland Browns, will meet with players in New York . next Thursday to negotiate demands for higher pay and* a fatter .pension, j 'The . committee received a “vote of confidence” at Thursday’s closing session of the joint NFL-AFL spring meeting here to work out counterproposals and seek to sign a contract with the NFL players that will. run until the two leagues merge in 1970.Once the merger actually takes place, a new contract will have to be drawn up to include players now in the AFL, Commissioner Pete Rozelle explained.Modell’s committee includes Rankin Smith of Atlanta,Wellington .Mara of the New York Giants, Vince.Lombardi of Green Bay, George ttallas Sr., of Chicago and Jim Finks. of Minnesota,The players are demanding $12,000 minimum salaries, $500-per-game for pre-season exhibitions and an annual increase in the pension fund from $1.8 million to $5'million.Club owners, during1 the four-day meeting here, made • it pretty clear they have , no intention of. meeting those demands but left the door open for compromise.“It is the owners feeling that they intend to be fair and responsible,” Rozelle said Wednesday. “They , are hopeful the players will be the same..
