A combined team from the Jr. High and New Middletown, consisting of 13 boys, was entered in the 8th grade section of the meet. The boys from Corydon and New Middletown surprised everybody in piling up 51 points and coming in second.The events that the team took places in are as follows:50 yd. dash — John Swisher, 2nd, 4 pts.220 yd. dash — Virgil Miller, 1st, 6 pts., Carl Stepro, 5th, 1 pt.440 yd. run — Roger Blank, 1st, 6 pts.100 yd. dash — Virgil Miller, 2nd, 4 pts.880 Relay — George Miller, Carl Stepro, John Swisher, Virgil Miller, 1st, 12 pts.440 Relay — George Miller, Carl Stepro, Brad Lillpop, John Swisher, 2nd, 8 pts.High Jump — Brad Lillpop, 4th, 2 pts.Long Jump, 8th Grade — Brad Lillpop, 3rd, 3 pts.Long Jump, 7th Grade — DavidFisher, 1st, 6 pts.52 points total.Coach Charlie Phillips said, “I was real proud of the boys and the good showing they made. I was even more impressed with them due to the fact that it rained all Saturday morning and they all didtheir job like men. ^ ,It’s these kinds of individualsthat over-come obstacles, as the boys did Saturday, that makes me proud to be a part of this community. The parents can be very proud of their boys.”Boys who made the trip included: Roger Blank, Brad lillpop,Mike Biddle, Kerry Chumley, from New Middletown, and Coach Dumon Wolfe; and from Junior High at Corydon, Dennis Faith, David Fisher, Paul Hess, George Miller, Virgil Miller, Tom Roth-rock, Dennis Reimold, Carl Stepro, John Swisher, and HaroldValentine.
