OTTS-SMITH FIGHT.In the Seventh, Billy Knocked Out Rube— Fierce Slugging.Oakland. Cal., May 16.—Billy Ottis lt;f San Francisco knocked out Hube Smith of Denver in the seventh round of what wan to have been a fifteen-round contest lefore the Alliance Athletic club tonight. It was a fierce slugging match from start to finish, with Smith doing most of the leading, but he was no match in strength for Ottis. whose blows seemed to have terrific force. In only one round, the fourth, did Smith appear to have thlt;* better of It. Ottis caught Smith several terrific swings to the head In the sixth, sending him to the floor for the count of six. Just at the end of the round Ottis landed a fearful right swing to the head and Smith again w»*nt down, apparently finished, but the gong saved him and he was assisted to his corner. Smith came Up comparatively fr^sh for the seventh, but Ottis m*t him as he came out of his corner, and after a fierce exchange Ottis again landed a wicked chop to the Jaw. Smith went to his knees and was counted out.In the preliminaries Jack Evans was given the decision over Tommy Taylor and George Curran won frum Caesar At-tell, the latter being disqualified for going down without being hit.Eddie Smith refereod oil the bouts.
