The Syr a.cuse Scorpions of the North American Soccer League also use Us facilities.The fire broke out in a ground level concession stand behind home plate. By the time two companies of firemen reached the scene it was burning out of control, fire officials said.It was immediately declared a general alarm blaze and all fire apparatus in the city was dispatched to the scene.Firemen were hampered infighting the blaze by scores of onlookers who were attracted to the scene as it lit up the nightsky.Cause of the fire was not im-mediately determined. Deputy Fire Chief Edwin F. Apps said, however, firemen detected a stroug odor of gasoline when they first arrived at the ball-park.The fire began near the park'smain entrance and quickly destroyed grandstand seats in the area, the press box, team a*fi-ces and concession stands.Then it spread in both directions, down the left and right field lines.The Chiefs, who lost to the Rochester Red Wings 7-3 Wednesday night in Syracuse, meet the Red Wings again today in Rochester.Donald V, Labbruzzo, general manager of the team, said lie was shocked when he learned of he blaze. Re said he could not make plans for the team until he has a chance to assess the situation.
