Sandusky High’s StreaksThird In District Meet:Fremont Class A VictorSandusky High's Blue Streaks placed third in the district track and field meet at Hannon field, Fremont on Saturday, tot tiling: 40 points. Fremont took first honors with 40 points and Mansfield athletes finished in second place with 42V2 points.Only “tough breaks'* kept Sandusky from copping the title again or placing in runner-up position. Two members of the Blue squad expected to garner points in tho f.nals were unable to qualify and an injury sustained by Eugene Burns, Sandusky's colored ace, in the 220-yard !o v hurdles eliminated a chance for either first or second place points. No less than three of the local entrants—Al Hess, Sterling RiceelU andJames Earl — went into action withinjuries and their efforts displayed were worthy of attention. Both Hess and lUceelli ran together with Bernard O’Reilly and Burns ran in the half-mile relay which Sandusky won in the time of 1:36.9. Earl failed to qualify in either the century or 229-yard dashes.Rain fell in torrents around noon hour and despite the condition of the field and track the first events in the finals got under way only a few minutes after scheduled time. Tho wot condition of the track was said responsible for Burns’ full in the lowhurdles’ event,Scherer and Carroll in the shot put and low hurdles’ events, respectively, failed to qualify for the finals,. Thomas Sexton, Willard distance runner, won tho mile run in 4:50.4 and after leading in the 880-yard run diopped out when apparently stricken with.sickness. Willis Alexander, Sandusky, won this event. UiceoHi, in the high jump and Conley, javelin teaser, qualified in the morning preliminaries but did not place Cor points in the finals.Coach Whittaker has not as yet determined just how many athletes he will take to Columbus next Saturday for the state meet.Summaries:CLASS VShot put—Won by Reed (N); second, 1.
