In the sixth round of hisscheduled 20-round bout with MorganWilliams, the Victor (Colo.) trial horse, Rogers received a left to the Jaw that sent him »o the mat for the count of eight. He got to his feet, but a shower of body blows and another left to the point of the chin sent him arfin to the mat. and Tom Gleason, his chief second, threw In the sponge. The gong sounded before Referee Jim Byrne had counted the. necessary ten, but Rogers was clearly out.While the going had been even up until the sixth round. Williams seemed to be feeling his man out, and w*as never bothered by the Smithfield man's punches.The bout was held at the Florence theatre before 600 fans, among whom were Mayor John S. Bransford of Salt Lake, E. S. Ferry, Tom Kearns and J. Frank Judge, also of ^alt Lake.In the preliminary, George Tippet stopped Paddy McGowan in the fifth round. Both are local lightweights. The crowd was greatly pleased at thecard.
