JEFFRIES WALKS TO SANTA CRUZ FOR HIS DAY’S WORKBen Lomond, Cal., May 13.—Jeffries confined his work today to a ten-mlle tramp to Santa Cruz, where he recuperated with a eait hot water bath. He whiled away the morning hours pull ing a boat up and down the San Borenzo river. In the afternoon lie decided on the long walk to Santa Cruz. H** declared before starting that he Intended doing the entire ten miles in slow time, and had made up his mind to a hot salt tub bath at the end of the journey. Jeffries was accompanied by bis hrotner*Jack. Both Choynski and Vrm-strong were well pleased with the pBns for the long walk, and the resultant respite from the strenuous period in tl.e ring. The two boxers would no*, be displeased if Jeff decided to emulate old man Weston every day u.itil the fight. It is believed here that Kddie Graney stands a good chance of being selected as the third man in the ring. Manager Slt;»m Berger left here for San Francisco this evening to take up the selection ot a referee. Kddie Smith is the only one of the three men under consideration who Is openly satisfactory to Berger. The latter is sure violently to oppose the selection of Graney or Welch when the question comes up again. Both Rickard and Gleason are favorable to Graney, and it is believed here that Jeff will not oppose the selection of the blacksmith.
