IforThere must ho plenty ot tired foot in Centralia today, be-causo SIS people — most of thorn youngsters — finished the 20-mile “Walk for Mankind'* through Ontralia yesterday, raising an estimated $15,000 for a dental and medical clinic in Appalathia. A total of 778 entered the long walk yesterday at 7 a.m. The last straggler finished the zig-zag course at 7:20 p.m. The first to finish was Nira Hallantini. Ron fioff was the first adult to finish the walk, which took participants through many parts of Ontralia. The event was sponsored by the Ontralia .laycees and the Junior Women's Club. Many local businessmen sponsored walkers, pledging certain amounts for the clinic for each mile walked. Mayor Oral Tel-Mankindford (left) got the walk off to a start at the Foundation Park Itowl. which also was the finishing point. Snoopy decided to ride in a Corvette, (right), as he also participated. Many helpers provided water to the thirsty walkers at various points along the route. One couple, whose ages were estimated at about 05. walked the entire 20 miles together. Hut at least one girl who didn't make it was taken home in a “weary walker wagon. — one of the trucks which followed the walkers. Jaycee Jamie Cobb (who confesses he was snoipy) said walkers came from many areas besides Centralia. Other towns represented included Salem, OuOuoin, Nashville, Tamaroa. Vshley, Mt. Vernon. Hoffman. Hartelso and even Frogtown.
