Robstown half-miler Ramiro LaraRobstown had only two entries in Conference 3A of theState Meet in track and field, but still outscored the SintonPirates, district and regional champions, 12 points to 11.The Cotton Pickers scoredten points in the 880-yard run in which Ramiro Lara took firstplace in the division with a time of 1:54.8 and Roy Bray picked up the other two points with a fifth place finish in the shot.Louis Brown was third in the100-yard dash to give the Pirates six points, Willie Jones added another point by finishing sixth in the discus and the Pirate relay team was fifth (3:19.-4), good for four points.The Pickers and Pirates werethp nnlv IRA AA mpmhar QrhnnlQ9a time of 1:54.8, although some watches had him in 1:54.6 whichwould have tied his season'sbest. He ran with the pack on the first 440-yard lap in the unofficial time of 56.2. Lara moved into the lead with about 330to go, then put on his famous kick some 110 yards out and opened his lead to a good 25 yards at the finish line. He thus becomes the first gold medal winner for Robstown a'the State Meet since Alton Carl â– son won the 120-yard high hurdles in 14.2 in 1962.Other results in the half milewere: 2.
