Prospect 4, Meadows 3It took one of the longest gamesin Mid-Suburban League history,but host Prospect accomplished a big goal Wednesday.The Knights survived a 12-inning marathon against Rolling Meadows before an RBI double by Jam ie Tierney carried Prospect to a 4-3 South division victory in a contest that took nearly 2^ hours to complete.The triumph enabled Prospectto clinch the MSL South title and earn a berth against Barrington in the league championship game on Thursday, May 19.Winning pitcher Kathleen Sas-san and her counterpart Kristina Stein battled the whole way as Meadows tied the game 3-3 with a run in the top of the fifth.After that it was a defensive struggle until Tierney's 12th inning heroics.“We had a lot of chances to win in extra innings, and I'm real proud of the way we hung in there and kept battling,” said Prospect coach Dave Jacobson. “She (Sas-san) did a great job. She justturned it up a notch and pitchedgreat/’Prospect (12-7, 11-3) trailed 1-9 after the Mustangs' Stein singled and scored on Kari Brown's RBI in the first, but the Knights bounced back for 3 runs on 3 hits in the second.Betty Golemis had an RBI during the rally while Pam Millonzi walked and scored on a wild pitch.The Mustangs (8-12, 5 9) cut the gap to 3-2 when Amy Hansonreached on an error and scored on an error in the fourth before Brown's second RBI drove in Becky Arndt with the tying run in the fifth.“The girls felt they had something to prove, and they feel now they can play with and beat anybody. said Meadow's coach Greg Benes. “It was just a well-playedcontest.”Chrissy Volz reached base on a fielder's choice with two outs in the 12th before Golemis was safeon an infield single.
