aintedieirtoLin-elyjurrexiheCondry brothers are « slingshot champions tWendel Condry of Carrizo Springs and his brother, Arvel Condry of Crystal City, were the top winners of the 5th annual World Championship Slingshot Tournament held May 7 in Carrizo Springs.Wendel successfully defended his title as World Champion against some of the strongest competition ever assembled for the tournament. He fired a score of 373 out of a possible 400. Running a really strong second and receiving theAggies are reprimandedTexas AM University sports officials received the NCAA’s one-year probation with some relief last Monday saying they were glad the investigation was resolved.The NCAA imposed a one-year probation on the school for infractions in its basketball program. There were no sanctions attached to the probation, meaning Texas AM could still participate in an NCAA post season playoff and appear on television.The Southwest Conference already had placed a one-year suspension on the two players involved, Karl Godine and Jarvis Williams.The school was ordered by the NCAA to sever all relations, formal and informal, “with certain representatives of the university’srunner-up trophy was Arvel, who shot 341. Third place went to Reece Jennings of ^Fort Worth, brother-in-law of Mrs. Anna Davis. sShooters entered from Corpus Christi, Oklahoma City, Seguin, Luling, Fort Worth, Carrizo Springs and j Crystal City. tJoey John of Carrizo Springs defended his junior tcrown and received the junior \champion’s trophy.In a special feature, the top l three slingshot shooters were \ matched against the pistols of t law enforcement officials. fDimmit County Judge { Larry Speer fired 91 in the pistol division; Sonny Crsak of the US Border Patrol fired 97, and Ralph Sramek Jr. of the Department of Public Safety fired 99 for a total team score of 287.In the slingshot division, Jennings fired 87, Arvel Condry, 85, and Wendel Condry, 95, for a team total of 267.A special challenge match between J.B. Rackley of Luling, using his slingshot, and Trooper Sramek, using his pistol, was won by Rackley, 2-0 in a quick draw and shoot contest.Tournament Chairman Andy Armstrong was assisted by James Butler and Jimmie Weaver. Mrs. Rackley and Mrs. Martha Condry were scorekeepers for the tournament which is sponsored annually by the Dimmit County Chamber of Commerce.
