Kiwanis, Jaycees winBy MIKE COX Special To The starHAMMOND — Kiwanis trounced Quick Realty 26-1 and the Jaycees edged Magee Finance 5-3 Tuesday night as the 1976 Dixie Youth Baseball League season began.Monday’s game were rained out and will be made up Saturday morning beginning at 9: Land of Sports will play Johnson’s and Rotary takes on Guaranty.Kiwanis had it all working with Marty Morgan going 4 for 5 at the plate and J.J. Jones striking out 10 on the mound.Dixie BoysAfter the first inning, Quick Reality’s hopes of an opening win were shattered. Andre Hanible started it off for Kiwanis and everyone just followed. Kiwanis scored 13 runs on 11 hits in the first inning. Quick Realty wanted to win badly but just couldn’t find the ball with the bat. Their only run was by Randy LeBlanc after getting a walk. From that point on it was all Kiwanis. Tommy Masaracchia had the only but for Quick.For Kiwanis, Hanible went 3 for 5, Gary Bordoch 3 for 5, Brian Dorsa 2 for 3 and Greg Starwood 3 for 3. Kiwanis plays Land of Sports next and Quick Reality will be trying to win against Rotary.Jaycees and Magee Finance started off as usual with a close ball game. Jaycee pitcher Earl Pines was pitchingred hot while Magee pitcher Reginald Lewis was throwing smke. Magee scored first with Kennedy Andrews coming in on a passed ball. Jaycees then came back with RBI’s by Brian Anderson and K. Burton. An error in the fourth inning by Magee’s leftfieldei allowed Jaycees to score three more runs. M. Anderson came through with a triple adn a single for Magee but this was not enough. Jaycees had only three hits but played a sound defensive game.The play of the game was Earl Pines snag of a grounder hit by Mark Perriloux followed by a perfect toss to first to end the game.Friday, Jaycees face Holiday Inn while Magee plays Channell Drugs.We hope all of you who like baseball will come out and support your favorite team.
