\ .. we never quit'- lirotvnNuggets rally against Nets, 118-110 to avoid playoff elimination at homeDENVER (UP!) - Larry Brown, the American Basketball Associations Coach of the Year, admits he's prejudiced, but he thinks the Denver Nuggets are a remarkable team,Trailing by as many as 16 points and faced with the possibility of losing the ABA playoff championship series on their home court, the Nuggets rallied for a 118-110 victory over the - New York Nets- Tuesday.. The win ieft-Denver trading New York, 3-2, in the best ofseven series, with the sixth game scheduled Thursday night in Uniondaie, N.Y. If the Nuggets win, the seventh and deciding contest will be held in Denver Sunday.“We were down 16 and it looked simply like we were out of the game, Brown admitted. But we never quit. When you have every opportunity to just die but instead come back like that, it’s just remarkable.”Due largely to the offensive antics of Net forward Julius Erving, whom Denver has been unable to stop in the series. New York led, 49-33, with five minutes left in the second period and appeared ready to turn the game into a rout.But the Nuggets pushed-to within six at haiftime and came out shooting in. the third period. Denver hit l3-of-19 shots in that quarter and outscored the Nets, 42-20.Guard Chuck Williams scored 10 of his 20 points in the third period and David Thompson, the ABA'S Rookie of the Year, scored nine of his 19. High point men for theNuggets were Dan Issel and Ralph Simpson with 21 points apiece.“It’s the first time in the series when we took them out of their offense,” Brown said. “We acted and they reacted. Simoson increased the temnot *-in the third quarter and he gotus running. This time we initiated the tempo, we overplayed on defense and did everything we had to do.” Erving again proved to be a one-man offense for the Nets, hitting 13-of-21 shots and scoring 37 points. He also had 15 of his team’s 32 rebounds.
