HOLLYWOOD, Calif.-AU the air was let out of the Dick Stuart bubble Saturday when the oncechesty chatterbox was sent down the river to Atlanta.During Saturday's game with Sacramento. Manager Clyde King removed the 24-year-old outfielder from the lineup and informed him that the parent Pittsburgh Pirates were sending him to the Atlanta Crackers of the Class AA Southern Association.Although Atlan*a is not a Prate affiliate, a Prate spokesman said that Stuart will remain on option from the Pittsburgh club, add-1. ing, “The Pirates will have the right to recall him from Atlanta at the end of the season. If we don’t recall him, but we undoubtedly will, he will become Atlanta property.”King said. “Dick is a fine pros- I pect, but I feel he is not quite ready for Coast League baseball. He has to play every day in order to improve. The Southern Associa- t lion is a real fast league, and if i he can hit in that league he will \ be ready for Pttsburgh. I wish1him good luck.” tAlthough he must have known the axe was going to fall, Stuart seemed shocked when first given lt;lt;the bad news. In fact, his first j ( reaction was that he would not ] report to the Crackers but would , go to Canada and play semipro ball. However, after Dick cooled , off, he informed Vice-President ] Bob Clements of Hollywood that he j, will report to Atlanta after he drives his car to his home in the San Francisco Bay area.Stuart, who slugged 66 homeruns for Lincoln in tne western League last season, entered the Coast League this spring with more advance publicity than Jayne Mansfield would get if she was anino tn emulate Ladv Godiva inTimes Square.Although the rangy slugger leaves the PCL tied for leadership in home runs with six, it had become increasingly evident that the pitchers had his number.Stuart flogged five homers in the first six games of the season, but didn’t hit his sixth until May 1 against Los Angeles.Because of Stuart’s numerous strikeouts and inept fielding, King was obliged to bench him on April 24, and he didn’t return to the lineup until the Sacramento series began last Tuesday. For the PCL season Stuart appeared in 23 games. He came to bat 72 tunes, delivered 11 singles and 6 homers, batted m 17 runs and struck out no less than 32times.
