Shafter outlasted theGarces Ladv Ramblers 25-23 onTuesdav. shortened a make-up game with the Wasco Cubs in a 20-6 victory on Wednesday, then returned0 0 wThursday for a 22-5 w in over Wascodragain.Garces at ShafterShafter gave up 3 runs in the top of the first Becky Chewning led off the bottom of the first inning with a single.One out later, Kristen Farmer and Beverly Reimer had back to back walks.Chewning took a healthy lead from third on the next pitch to the plate. The Cubs catcher threw to third and Chewning stole home.Vanessa Plaza followed with a double and drove in Farmer and Reimer and the game was tied, 3-3.Later Plaza scored, and at the end of an inning, Shafter led 4-3. At the end of the second, Garces led 9-7.When the end of the third rolled around, the Colonels cut the lead to 12-11. After four, Garces maintained an 18-17 edge.Garces pushed over five more in the top of the fifth for a 23-17 lead. With Tonva Thornton at third base and Deedra Cobb at second and twoouts, it looked as though the Ramblers were going to take control.Then, seven straight Colonels reached base and before the inning was over. Cobb, Chewning. Leah Lopeteguy, Farmer, Reimer, and Plaza had each scored once and Thornton had scored twice.It all added up to 8 runs in the bottom of the Fifth, and the Colonelsfinally led again. 25-23.Thornton, Shafter's pitcher, settled down and retired 6 of the next 7 shetaced and the Colonels hnno onChewning went 4-5 with a walk,four stolen bases, 4 runs scored, andan RBI.Farmer went 0-1 with five walks, three stolen bases and 4 runs scored.Reimer went 0-1 with five walks, three stolen bases, and 3 runs scored.Plaza was 3-6 with a stolen base, a run scored and six RBI's.Thornton went 3-5 with a stolen base and 2 runs scored.The Colonels scored 25 runs, had21 stolen bases, and drew 15 walks.Farmer and Reimer had back to back walks five times in the game.Wasco at ShafterShafter took control ofWednesday's game with the Cubsfrom the verv start.mChewning opened up with a walk. Topeteguey and Thornton each followed with doubles.Then Reimer and Myra Maldonado each walked. Plaza then had another walk followed with singles by Cobb and Stephanie Rill.Alicia Webb walked and Shafter had gone through the line-up, Wasco hadn't recorded an out.Chewning singled, Lopeteguy walked, Thornton singled, and Reimer and Maldonado each walked again.Seven runs had scored before the first out was recorded, and 5 more would cross the plate before the last out w as recorded in the bottom of the first.Shafter was shut down in the second but scored 5 in the third and 3 in the fourth.The Colonels built a 20-6 lead bythe fifth and the game was called.Wasco at ShafterThe Colonels scored 4 in the top of the first on Thursday, but Shafter roared back.The Colonels scored 12 runs on four hits, seven walks and two errors in the first, five runs on one hit, five w alks, a hit batter, and two errors in the second, and 5 runs on three hits, three walks and two errors in the third.Shafter built a 22-5 lead and the game was called after three.The Ladv Colonels outscored their opponents 76-34 in three games last week.
