Raiders Begin Their Last Week Of Practicet ..... m II.........————»Squad Well Conditioned After Work Under Broiling Sun; Play Strong Teams This Week-End.THANKFUL for the rainfall which somewhat softened the ground at Hill field, Bubbles Hargrave massed his forces Tuesday to begin the final week of practice before opening the Western league season in Roek Island next Tuesday.It is probable that the skipper would have been just as well pleased if the rain had interferred with practice Tuesday. He declared after Monday’* abbreviated session that hi* charges are well worn a* the result of ten days of intensive drill under a boiling sun on a cement-like playing field, but he will not voluntarily call a halt for fear that more rain may bring about enforced recesses.Only two hour* of hitting and fielding, instead of the customary five hours, were held Monday.Included in the Anal preparation* for the pennant inaugural, the Haidars will engaga in exhibition games with formidable opposition Saturday and Sunday, The House of David club, with a team that has defeated major and American association outfits this spring, will be here Saturday, while the Hartford Giants, a strong Chicago colored team, will display its wares on Sunday.With his squad now down to twenty-two men, Hargrave is within the limit that may be carried for the first ten days of the race, but he intimated after Monday’s driLl that he expects to reduce by three or four more before opening day. He also intimated that ne may add two or three new men to .the roster within the week.
