jj. | in me auegea Ausuu-iauon homicide case ich Saturday's Game.—The Mountain City1 ■■ML ' Mi '■ jdfc. ?base ball club and a picked nine played apractice game on Saturday. The score atthe end of the ninth inning stood 17 to 8,in favor of the M. C. This is not a very, j encouraging result, if we consider the fact ind j . ... that the nine airainst which the M. In order to give some idea of the comparative | strength of the two nines, we give below the names of the players and their positions. The M. C. nine (regular nine) is as follows : J. Flanagan, c.; Flack, p.; E. Vaughn, 1st b.: Peak, 2nd b. ; Fisher, 3d h*% Krichbaum, s. s.; F. Vaughn, 1. f. ; Al. Bradley, c. f.; Tweedy, r. f. Ely, 1stBfc®* ] b. ; Dysart, 2nd b. ; J. Kljrt 84 b*| M.Bradley, s. s.; Hopkinson, 1. f. ; Meade,c. f. ; Yeager, r. f. In the early part of the game Frank Vaughn sprained his ar a j ankle severely, and being unable to play, Harry Wood was substituted. Price, catcher for the picked nine, played out on the fourth inning, and Hopkinson, who was playing c. f., was substituted as catcher, and Atherton took his place in the “le | field. The game was watched with considerable interest by all present, as some • j fears were expressed that the picked nine 1 might “walk away” with the Mountain ;oing City, and leave the boys in a “dish-rag” [•any J condition for Wednesday’s game with thecon-j Juniata club, of Hoilidaysburg. Whilethose fears were not realized, it seemed manifest that with one or two positions in the picked nine filled by more practiced players, they would trouble their opponents seriously. There is no mistaking the fact that the M. C. boys play a good game, but jagt I another fact is equally apparent, there is ' excellent material in the city not yet utilized, and which may be organized to | some advantage. From present indications the base ball season promises to be decidedly interesting, even in contests between Altoona clubs.tinU13ortwtoeleansouse,next.wkeye o us.tioo’cTli)ofdis--icks,thincam-blesstl
