TA Ramps 16-4 In Valley Baseball By ANDY MENDLOWITZ News-Record Sports Writer BRIDGEWATER — If Sean Soso was the table-setter, than Travis Johnson and Jason Airey played the roles of people who have not eaten for three days. The trio combined to lead Turner Ashby High School to a 16-4 victory over Harrisonburg in Valley District baseball Friday. Loso started the Knights’ onslaught by walk ing and scoring on an errant throw when he at tempted to steal second. The frenetic pace was set. Johnson led TA’s 13-hit attack by going 3- for-3 and driving in three runs. Airey, mean while, allowed no earned runs and four hits in a four-inning complete game. “We like to be aggressive on the base paths, like stealing second on dirt balls, being aggres sive at the plate,” Losa said. “Being aggressive everywhere. Kind of put them in an uncomfort zone and it lets us play where we're comfortable at. A run’s a run, pretty or not.” ‘Harrisonburg (7-6 overall, 5-6 in the Valley) won the first meeting 13-2 a month ago. In that game, TA (10-4, 8-4) scored the first two runs but faltered later in the game. It was different Friday, as Turner Ashby scored twice in the first inning but kept the pressure on with four runs in the second and five runs in the next two in nings. “I think we're just more aggressive when we have two runs on the board,” Johnson, a right fielder, said. “We’re just more relaxed at the plate. We know we're ahead. They’ve got to be the ones to get up there and hit the bail hard.Josh Eye went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Loso, Adam Rhodes, Lane Lough and Grattan Shull each drove in a run. Airey cruised on the mound and only a Robert Humphrey pinch hit, a three-RBI triple and a balk in the fourth inning ruined his shutout. That temporarily took the slaughter rule away as a team has to be leading by 10 runs after the fifth inning to have a game called. In TA’s turn at bat, Eye singled in two runs, Johnson smacked an RBI-double and a run scored on the wild pitch to make the score 16-4.
