AGAWAM — Southampton’s Johnny Lobo drove the Jimmy Keats No. 23 to victory for the second time this season in the 50-lap modified feature Saturday night at Riverside Park Speedway. 9The first of four 12-lap heats was won by Stash Gregor was followed by Ron Wyckoff and Russ Maclean.The second heat after a complete restart, was won by Bill Greco. Greco was followed by Tony Mordino and Enfield’s Bobby Stefanik in the Fiore Monza.The third heat was won by East Hartford’s Bobby Bard, Jr. Bard was followed by Holyoke’s Lou Tabone and Lobo.The fourth and final heat, after another complete restart, was won by Dick Taylor, followed by Enfield’s John Fisher, last week’s feature winner Jack Lecuyer, and Manchester’s National Speed Shop car driven by John Warren.The first of two 15-lap semifinals was won by Wyckoff, followed by Greco. Point-leader Bob Polverari crossed the finish line in third followed by Union-ville’s Billy Knight who was inspired by his crew members’new uniforms.The second semifinal had two complete restarts before Tabone finished first followed by Bard and Ijecuyer who battled Lobo head-to-head down to the wire.The B Consolation event, which qualifies four cars for the A Consolation, was won by John Porto. Charlie Centinaro wassecond.The A Consolation event, which i qualifies four cars for the feature v event, was won by Dick Taylor followed by Simsbury’s Steve FHoppi and Pete Fiandaca. vThe 50-lap feature event had a ‘complete restart on the first lap rwhen Bard tangled with Tabone and Wyckoff, parking all three. rWhen the race re-started, outside pole-sitter Mordino took the early alead. On lap two Ralph Graham Fpassed Mordino for first. On lap »seven, eighth-place starter Lobo vtook the lead. On lap 16, in turn sthree, I^ecuyer spun off the track but with quick maneuvering 1started again losing only six Gspots. On lap 24 Gregor, running ififth, hit the third turn wall afterscuffing tires with Maclean. On 2:lap 25 Knight spun out of contention in turn two. On lap 44 £Charlie Glazier, 1974 track *champion, hit the second-turn cwall retiring himself. cAfter taking the lead on the 2seventh lap Lobo drove to victory rfollowed by Graham and II^ecuyer. Polverari, who started 114th finished fourth, followed by IGreco and Bristol’s Sonny IO’Sullivan, who started 10th. IThe fearless Figure 8’ers in Itheir flying machines topped off ■the evening when Charlie Rogers rolling end over end, not once, but twice. The red flag stopped the !race. Rogers emerged from his car unharmed, due to the rigid safety regulations of United Stock Car Racing Association. ;The race re-started and Enfield’s Jerry Marquis, who was involved :in a fender-bender before the race began, drove his car to victory.
