Emmetsburg Lost At EsthervilleLocal J, C. Pitcher Could Not Attend, Leaving Box Work to Burns and Cullen.Earl Peterson was not able to leave the A. P. store Saturday to pitch for the Emmetsburg J. C. boys against Esthervllle. The result was 17 to 3 in favor of Esthervllle. In the previous games against Ayrshire, Mallard and Waldorf college, the opposition made only one point each against Emmetsburg. The Daily News gives the following account of Saturday’s game:With Owen and Jackson leading the attack with four hits apiece, the Es-therville Junior college baseball team swamped the Emmetsburg nine at the local park Saturday afternoon by a score of 17 to 3.Estherville's team,- looking entirely different than it did a week before when it lost to Waldorf, slammed out a total of 16 hits, ran the bases wildly and combined the breaks of the game to score all of their runs in the first six innings off Burns.Cullen, a southpaw, then took the mound for the visitors and shut off the local nine out during the last two innings.Although V. Maas was in difficulty a great part of the time he received airtight support and pitched seven scoreless innings before he turned the Job over to Jackson. The latter’s offerings were just the thing Emmetsburg had waited for all afternoon and three runs crossed the plate before the side was retired. E. Maas closed the hurling work for the locals by shutting the losers out again in the ninth.Estherviile's new combination in the Infield with Owen at first, Hugg on the keystone sack, Einerick at short and E. Maas at third was a fast outfit and proved far better than tha lineup in the team’s first game with Waldorf last week.In addition to pitching one scoreless inning. Maas played a great game at third, handling six chances without a bobble, and gat three hits in five trips to the batter's box to stand out among the players of bath teams.Cullen who played first for Emmetsburg until he took over the pitching led the visitors attack with two hits in four times at bat.
