Avante does it againMILTON FREEWATER -Avante of Pasco won the 10th Annual Cinco De Mayo soccer tournament being held at Shockman Field here Saturday.For Avante, it was the fourth-straight tournament championship.Avante won the affair with a 1-0 victory over Vasco de Gama of Portland. The win came off a penalty kicks.In the tournament’s opening round, Spokane defeated a Walla Walla Community College team 3-1 and Vasco de Game defeated Whitman’s contingent 2-1.Also in the first round, Milton-Freewater defeated De-portivo Mexico of Kennewick 1-0 and Avante downed Vivo-ras of Prescott 1-0.Vasco de Game defeated Spokane 6-0 in the semifinals while Avante took the mea sure of M-F 2-1.The tournament’s high scorer was Vasco de Gama’s Pablo Reyes with five goals and the best goalkeeper was Vasco de Gama’s Rojelio Serrano.Tournament most valuable player honors went to Avante’s Rigoberto Garcia.“This is the fourth year in a row that Avante has won with a penalty kick,” said tournament director Santos Garcia. “The competition was really good this year, especially the Portland team ... it was a very outstanding team.“This was the best tournament in 10 years,” Garcia said.
