6SS Summers-Port9 Launched At Civic CenterA nautical theme in red, white and blue, with pennants, streamers and life preservers decorated Godfrey Civic Center last e\emng when the “SS Sum-mers-Port” was. reportedly, successfully launched at a get-acquainted dance which attracted some 175 couples, members of the swimming pool club.A floor show, for which John Roach was master of ceremonies, was staged by members and was the highlight of the evening,A quartet of hula dancers brought down the house, and was comprised by Neil Balfour, Robert Homer, Hamilton Jones and Miles McCahill. A group of dancing sailor girls were brought back for an encore by an enthusiastic audience, and performing in a vocal quartet were Dr. George Hassard, Bill Reed, Art Fowler and Sigmund ReidWillard Johnson, billed as “Earthy Schmidt,” amused the audience with a pantomime of Eartha Kitt s record of C’est Moi. Mrs. John Roach and Bill Reed appeared as Minnie the Mermaid and the sailor.William Dick, Irving Wiseman. A1 Show and Dick Woodcock performed in a bathing beauty skit and serving as pianists for the occasion were Mrs. Bill Reed and Mrs John Rain.Mrs. James Voege served as general chairman for the dance and decoration* were done by Mr and Mrs. Elvis Umm. Dancing was to the music of Byron Hale s orchestra.
