Fansi'l.a yI*KUUIND DAILY NEWS, Sunday Morning, May 3,1981 Page 5C9friends ready to9roast9Rick Moody this Tuesday nightThey’re going to “Roast Ricky” and it should be a night to remember, especially for the guest of honor.The Fort Walton Beach High School Viking Booster Club will hold a special “Rick Moody Roast this Tuesday in the school cafeteria as their way of honoring and paying tribute to the man who was head basketball coach for the past two seasons Moody guided the Vikes to a District 2-AAAA championship in his rookie year as coach and followed this past season with a 20-game victory mark. Both accomplishments were firsts for the Vikings.Moody resigned as the school’s coach recently in order to take a basketball post as graduate assistant at Troy State University. He will be leaving the area in June The ‘Roast’ will be a covered dish affair. Those planning to attend should bring a meat dish and either a salad, vegetable or dessert enough to feed their family and three others. Food should be brought at 6 p.m. with the activities scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.While the event is a light-hearted way of honoring Moody for all he has done for basketball at Fort Walton Beach High and throughout the area, it could prove most interesting.The lineup of guests scheduled to appear at the dias should not only roast Moody, but should fry, baste, broil and set him on the charcoals for a barbeque.Rick Hord, a former Fort Walton Beach radio personality who is now working the air waves in Pensacola, will serve as Master of Ceremonies and should prove as a firing block for the following lineup of speakers:Bobby Smith -principal at Meigs Junior High who gave Moody his first coaching job in Okaloosa County and the father of Mark Smith, who was a standout Viking eager the last two years;Benny Gabbard-the outspoken and always witty head basketball coach at Choctawhatchee High who gave Moody his first basketball position in the high school ranks;Eddie Davenport-the athletic director at Fort Walton Beach High who was instrumental in hiring Moody two years ago;Erick Denny-a three-sport letterman for the Vikings who has been a starting guard for Moody the last two seasons;Jerry Brigante-one of the area’s foremost authorities on basketball who has also served as Moody’s softball coach for two years;Buddy 0’Neal--one of, if not the top, Viking sports fan who has closely followed Moody the last two years;Tommy St. Amant--the Vikings’ head girls basketball coach who has worked with Moody the last two years in building the cage programs at the school;Bea Ammons-a Viking booster club member who was charge of basketball concessions and served as Moody’s ri| arm during tournaments and banquets;Kevin Craig-the basketball program’s junior varsity coach and Moody’s assistant for two seasons;Mike Killimett--an assistant football coach at FWBHS and Moody’s counterpart in the school’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes program;Larry Olsen-an assistant Viking football coach and loyal basketball fan; andRon Balicki-the sports editor of the Daily News who has been a teammate on the softball field and has worked with Moody in numerous endeavours concerning his basketball program.Each of the featured speakers is expected to give a five minute rundown of their association with Moody, picking out some of the highlights and highlighting some of the lighter moments.
