Plante leaves Bruins to coach NordiquesQUEBEC CITY tUPI) — Jacques Plante signed -a multi-year contract as coach and general manager with the Quebec Nordiques of the World Hockey Association Wednesday, ending a 17-year goaltending career in the National Hockey league.Plante who still has one year remaining in his contract with the NHL Boston Bruins, told a news conference Wednesday he has signed a 10-year contract with the Nordiques.Salary terms were not disclosed but reports said the 44-year-old Plante would receive aver $1 million.Former coach Morris Filion has been named the club's head scout while General Manager Marius Fortier has accepted a government public relations position in France.Plante, 44, said he would liketo be a playing coach with the Nordiques but he said he cannot be an active player in the 1973-74 season because of his contract with the Bruins.“I don’t plan cm playing this year but next year I'll definitely be playing,” said Plante. “I feel I’ve still gat five years left in goal.”Plante, a native of Shawini-gan Falls, Que,, played in the NHL for 17 years, including 11 years for the Montreal Cana-diens.During his NHL career, Plante appeared in over 900 regular season and playoff games. He won the Hart Memorial Trophy as Montreal’s Most Valuable Player in the 1961-62 season and won the Vezina Trophy as the league’s best goaltender seven times, sharing it with Glenn Hall In 1966-69.
