The game ended as Argo’s third conference win against two loses.The score stood CM) until the top of the fourth when Lockport’s third baseman got on base with a walk. He, advanced to third on a stolen base and a passed ball. With two outs in the inningt Marino scored on an error by second baseman JackKrahulec.Argo trailed 1*0 going into the bottom of the sixth. The first batter up, Krahulec, singled to right. Cen-terfielder Dave Flaws singled again only to be advanced to second when shortstop Ken Rhodessingled to fill up the bags.Next batter, thirdbaseman Brad Kerzich, once again singled to knock in Krahulec and Rhodes. Flaws was out home.The score was then 2*1. Paul Kurr, rightfielder, hit into a fielder’s choice and was out at second allowing Kerzich to score.With two outs and the score 3*1 Argo, first baseman, Mark Dudzik, hit a fantastic triple down the first base line, only to be put out trying to take home.The winning pitcher for Argo was Mike Mallory, senior righthander. Mike pitched a great game striking, out 11 walking twoand giving up only three hits.The game ended after 7 innings with Argo the victor ' 3-1.The Argonauts fought for another victory on Monday, May I. Their foes were Joliet Catholic. Argo hosted this make*up game in the afternoon after a full day of rain.Argo was off to a flying start in the first when Krahulec went to first on an error by Catholic’s second baseman. Dave Flaws, senior cenlerfielder, hit into a fielder’s choice and advanced to second on an overthrow to first.The next batter, shortstop Ken Rhodes, smashed a double to score Flaws. Kerzich then went to first on an error by Catholic’s thirdbaseman.Into the batter’s box came rightfielder Kurr. With two strikes on him, Paul sent the ball flying over the left field fence, to make the score 4-0.The bottom of the third was another great inning for Argo. First man up, Rhodes, walloped another home run over the left field fence. Once again, Kurr stepped up to bat, and he walloped his second home run over the left-center fence this time.Jolfel Catholic’s first run came in the fourth inning when the batter was hit with a wild pitch. This runner scored with the help of two singles.In the fifth Catholic’sshortstop took first on an error by second baseman Krahulec, only to advance tosecond on a stolen base. The next batter also took first on an error by the first baseman Mark Dudzik.The catcher, Buchar, smashed a triple and took home on a misjudged throw by Rhodes. This scored three runs and made the score 6*4.In the sixth inning, with a new pitcher for Argo — Brad Kerzich — Catholic’s first batter singled and went to second on a passed ball. This runner scored after another single, and an error by centerfielder Flaws.The next batter hit a single only to be part of a doubleplay which put Joliet out of the miming.Going into the top of the seventh, the score stood 6-5, Argo in the lead. Argo was able to hold Joliet Catholic to this score and won the game by that narrow margin.The winning pitcher for Argo was senior, righthander Mike Mallory who was relieved by Kerzich after 5 and two-thirds innings. Brad made the last five out of seven put outs, including four strikeouts and a play at first.Mallory had a total of five strike outs, one walk and gave up four hits. His conference record is 3 wins and no loses.Argo's conference record Is five wins, three loses and no ties, which puts them insecond place behind Lock-port Central and Joliet West.Argo was the site of a double-header between Marian Catholic and Argo, on Saturday, April 29.The first game saw Marian as the winner. They received their 2 runs on errors madeby Argo.In the top of the sixth senior Brad Kerzich walked two men in a row. Both scored on errors by the centerfield and pitcher.Argo was unable to gain back the runs and lost 2-0.In the fourth inning of the 2nd game Kerzich, third baseman for Argo, got to first on a fielder's choice. Rightfielder Kurr then hit a single to center and advanced ;o third on an error by Marian’s centerfielder, knocking in Kerzich.The next hit came in the sixth when Kerzich once again singled to center and scored on an error by the centerfielder.Marian came back in the seventh with a double and scored on an error made by third baseman Kerzich.Ken Rher, Argo’s righthanded pitcher, struck out 11, walked two and allowed four hits. Marian’s pitcher, Brozek, struck out eight, walked one and gave up six hits. The final score was 2-1 in favor of Argo.The double-header ended in a split and a record for Argo of four wins and three loses.
