Gordon Juckes of Melville. CAHA secretary-manager, said the meeting was exploratory. fiom a CAHA viewpoint.i “Many questions still have to - bo answered. But we must recognize the fact different centres have different potentials. It could be a good thing for those involved but the CAHA has to be concerned with all aspects or hockey,” he said.Juckes said there were three major areas of CAHA concern but in none were “our view's too ! far apart. There was general agreement.’*He said the concerns were other junior centres that would not he included in the proposed league, that control or hockey would not be one-sided and the allotment of finances to all concerned with junior and minor hockey.“While we recognize the dependence on National Hockey League money the CAHA docs object to direct sponsorship. It was in 1963 that we originally proposed a universal draft without success. This league's draft proposal could be a start along this line.”The proposal for a western junior league basically would include two centres from each province which has university facilitiesA major proposal is the age limit be increased one year from junior eligibility which would remove it from Memorial Cup participation.Clubs could then, conceivably, trade players from existing junior A clubs after they completed their regular junior eligibility.Another major aspect of the proposed league is that the NHL would remain as sponsor but on a league basis not with individual teams. On graduation players would be eligible for drafting by professional clubs.Junior club operators have met several times during the last month on the proposal which would involve Winnipeg, Brandon. Saskatoon, Regina. Calgary, Edmonton and, possibly, Vancouver and New Westminster.Juckes said officers of the CAHA, following the meeting, were empowered to make a fact-finding study and report to a future CAHA meeting. The CAHA's annual meeting starts May 23 at Montreal.Attending the meeting was Frank Boucher of Regina, Sas-katchewan Junior Hockey League commissioner, Del Wilson of Regina Pats, Scotty Mun-ro of Estevan Bruins, Juckes, Fred Page of Vancouver, CAHA vice-president and Art Potter of Edmonton. CAHA past president. All provincial branch presidents attended: Dr. Leo Margo-lk of British Columbia; Stu Pep-pard of Alberta; Frank Germann ot Saskatchewan; Ted Lozanski of Manitoba and Gordon Houston of Thunder Bay.
