(/P)—Virginia Tech’s Gobblers were firmly en- ’ trenched atop the Big Six base- 1 ball standings today and the Old Dominion was without an unde- ' feated baseball team.That was the result of half of ' yesterday’s action involving Vir- , ginia College nines as Virginia j Tech turned back William and Mary’s Big Six bid 6-4 and Emory ] and Henry’s Wasps lost their first ■ encounter in 10 starts, bowing to Lincoln Memorial 2-1. ,Six games were on tap for state i teams today, including a Big Six clash that had William and Mary i (2-2) at Washington and Lee (1-3) and a'Little Seven tilt with Bridge- , water (0-2) at Hampden-Sydney i (3-2).Randolph Macon's Little Seven : leaders were hosts in a double-header to the Newport News Ap- ' prentice School, Virginia enter- ■ tained Wake Forest in an Atlantic ■ Coast Conference game and Rich- ! mond’s Spiders wound up a two- 1 day trip at Maryland.In other action yesterday, Richmond took a 12-1 drubbing from George Washington and Virginia Military edged West Virginia Tech 14-13.William and Mary could have taken the Big Six 3ead yesterday by defeating Tech, now well out front with a 3-1 mark, but the Indians fell back to third place instead. Freshman Dave Kuhn scattered seven Juts to post the Gobbler victory’- The Tech attack included doubles by Kuhn and Leo ' Burke and triples by Burke and Howie Wright.An outfield error ruined Ray Chapman’s four-hit pitching and led to Emory and Henry's downfall. With the score tied at 1-1 in the sixth inning, a Lincoln Memorial single got away and the visitors’ Bill Gilbert circled the bases with the winning run. The Wasps got only three safeties.Richmond was out of the game wit* G\v as early as the second ini when the Colonials scored seven times. Spider starter John Davenport walked five men and the Spiders tossed an error into the proceedings. The Spiders collected seven scattered hits.VM( blew an B-0 lead and committed nine errors before coming up with two runs in the eighth inning to sneak past West Virginia Tech.
