He will run in three of the following four events, 100 yard dash, 220 yard dash, 120 yard high hurdles and the 180 yard low hurdles. Besides that the lad will enter the broad jump.Altenberg will undoubtedly be running against Denny O'Brien. Roosevelt of Des Moines sprint star again. Jack McDonald, high hurdler from Oskaloosa, who set a Drake record in that event in :14.6, will probably be on hand for that race. It takes a lot of urging by sports writers to get coaches to compete against them.All Brown and Fowler did was complain about how long it had been since they had bowled. I gave them a handicap as it was. They wouldn’t let me eat until we had bowled and I was so hungry my stomach thought my throat had been cut. If that isn’t a good handicap I have never heard of one.Guess I better hadn’t brag too much because there are three gals on the high school faculty that could beat the three of us—Brown, Fowler and Tanner—with their eyes blind folded and giving us a 50 pin handicap. Mary Montgomery, Rhoda Schnittjer and Diane Odell might even be able to beat us left handed.Pretty ProudPaul Palmer and this writer took a group of youngsters to Davenport Sunday to a church rally. We managed to get enough youngsters from Marlon, Center Point, Alburnett, Walker, Urbana, Troy Mills and Central City to fill a 37 passenger Hampton Company bus. We think the kids had fun. There isn’t anything more enlight-ning than riding some distance with a group of young people.We were doubly proud in that we were the only group large enough to come by bus. Marion’s delegation was the second largest at the rally, second only to host St. John’s of Davenport. We are very proud of the youngsters in the Marion MYF and the Marion sub district.What amazed both Paul and I was the fact that we rode over 160 miles with the group and never had one disciplinary problem.
