LOUIS (AP - St. Louis Blues defenseman Harold Snepsts has announced his retirement after 17 seasons in theNational Hockey League■ NHLSnepsts, 36, played 61 games in two seasons with the Blues, getting one goal and five points.He ended his career with 1,033 games. 38 goals and 195 assists. He also had 2,009 pen alty minutes, the equivalent of33.5 games in the penalty box.“I’m done,” Snepsts s^id Tuesday. “All I have left to do now is remember all the great players I played with and all the friends I met. Thankfully, Iwplayed that long.”Snepsts had planned to retireafter last season, but the lure of the Stanley Cup brought him back. The extra season was worth it, he said.“It was a heck of a year,” he said. “We had 105 points, and that’s a hell of an accomplishment.”Snepsts may stay in the Blues organization, perhaps as head coach of the Blues’ Interna* tional Hockey League farmteam in Peoria, III. He will be meeting in the next few days with general manager Hon Caron and coach Brian Sutter.Snepsts was the Vancouver Canucks’ third-round choice in the 1974 entry draft. He played 10 seasons with the Canucksbefore being traded to Minnesota for A1 MacAdam in 1984 He signed with Detroit as a free agent after one season in Minnesota and ended up back in Vancouver as a free agent in1988.The Blues acquired him, HichSutter and a second-round draft pick from Vancouver for prospect Adrien Plavsic, a first-round pick and second-roundDick on March 6, 1990.
