The S.C. State women have won five straight and the men four consecutive MEAC titles.Bulldog athletes swept honors awarded at the annual championships. Darry Simmons, winner of the 100- and 200-meter dashes, was the outstanding male performer and Colette Williams, first in the long, high and triple jumps, was the top female athlete.The SCSC men’s tennis team won its third straight title, edging Howard University 26-19. Bethune-Cookman 1.Hooker ShinesQuarterback Alan Hooker tossed two scoring passes to lead the Blue past the Gold 28-0 inNorth Carolina AT’s annual spring football game April 19 at Aggie Stadium.Hooker fired scoring tosses of four yards to Juan Jackson and 17 yards to Anthony Best.Backup signal caller Tracy Napper also got into the passing act with scoring strikes of 40 yards to Napper and four yards to Joe Johnson.Coach Mo Forte was very encouraged by the Aggies’ springpractice.“We are in much better shape at this time than we have ever been before,’’ said Forte, whose team posted a 6-5 record in 1985. “There were some rough edges but overall I’m pleased. We got a lot of things solved.”Incidentally, the Pittsburgh Steelers have requested film from Forte of Hooker. Forte foresees his quarterback being an early-round choice in the NFL draft two years hence.MEAC OutlookMEAC Commissioner Ken Free has indicated the conference basketball tournament may not be back in Philadelphia next year.Whether the MEAC had worn out its two-year welcome in Philadelphia was not certain.
