The Senior nine has sent challenges to sev-| eral colleges in this State to play a game of Base Ball. Only one has been accepted asyet, they will play a nine from Eureka college, on Friday, May 2Sth, at Elmwood.The Senior nine consistsof Mitchell, Moir, Wilkin, Herbert, Hardin, Carithcrs, Brook, MeCutcheon and Madden.Our friends Mr. J. T. Wier of Sparta, and Miss Mattie McKeever of Aledo, were married in this place, on the 28th ult., by Rev. Alex. Young, D. D. We have often known , editors to “blow” about “ that delicious cake when Bpcaking of weddings, but never knew what they meant—supposing that there ! was no foundation for the “blow. We however know whereof we speak when we say the cake which onr friends sent us on this occasion, was both delicious and bountifully given. Co. of Chicago.o:Since writing the announcement of the Seiior nine to play ball, their challenge has been accepted by Abingdon college, and the arrangement now is to play Eureka college in Galesburg, on Friday, the 28th inst.. at 9 o'clock, A. M., and on Saturday, to play the nine from Abingdon College, also in Galesburg. On Saturday there will he an excursion train from this place, going up in the morning and returning in the evening. The fare will be, for gents 75 cents; gent k lady |1.25. Letters have been written ani received from Knox, Lombard, Eureka and Abingdon Colleges, and it is probable that there will be many from each to witness the game on Saturday.
