Hazel Crest NewsWrestling Awards PresentedWith more than 200 people in attendance, the first annualTROPHIES awarded included Rookies of the Year toparent-boys Hawks wrestlingteam banquet Hazel Crest park district wasKevin Mungovan and John Papas, most improved to Ron Banovich and Joe Slevnik, mosttermed _______ ^Prekwas, varsity head coach.The featured speaker was Ron Stuart, former three-timesmall college and all-American wrestler while at Elmhurstpins to Jack Phillips and most valuable to Tony Pellegrini.Participation trophies were given to the wrestlers who, incollege. Stuart is presently a teacher and assistant freshmancoach at Hillcrest high school.The highlight of the evening was the presentation of wrestling awards by Len Murphy, park district board member.the opinion of the staff, were eligible because of their effort, attendance and wrestling ability.Recipients included Jim Calderone, Dave Ascolani, BillAscolani, Tom Crouch, MikeTavernaro, Jim Tavernaro,John Korpus, Nick Kosinski,Larry Meyers, Bill O’Connell,Recreation CenterContract AwardedThe Hazel Crest park district board awarded a contract forpark districts have for such facilities.sewer and water for the newrecreation center to NormalCandy and prizes have been purchased for the annualplumbing, the low bidder.The center, which will be large enough to house a full-sized gymnasium, hasEaster egg hunt scheduled for April 13 at Woodland, Oak Hilland Wolf parks beginning at 9gymnasium, nas a projected completion date of May 1. It is located north and east of the field house at Oaka.m.The park district commissioners have begun work on the annual budget and have instructed their attorney toBlain Mason, Joe Orris, Tony Pellegrini, Bob Pellegrini, Justin Prekwas, Tom Enright, Kevin Mungovan, JackPhillips, Steve Phillips, Dave Marquez, John Papas, Mike Willig, Tom Willig, Dale Bailey, David Irussi, Bruce Irussi,Richard Smith, Ron Banovich, Joe Slevnick, Rob Slevnick, Bob Kruger, Alan Stepanik, Bob Stepanik, Rick Neilson, Guy Milburn, Joe Takash, Tim Takash, Dan Mills, DanFrankowski, Mike McAvoy, Bob Hale, Paul I^eahy, Maurice Leahy, John Leahy, John Hubbell, Mike Coughlan, Tom Swanson, Mike Lareau, JohnI^awrence, Kevin Nelson, Doug Neal, Greg Neal, John Magruder, Billy Vaughn, Mike Durano and Tim Lastauskas.Prekwas introduced the Hawks’ head coach, Bob Slevnik, along with junior varsity coaches Ron Banovich, Chris Murphy and Jack Phillips, Sr., and varsity coaches Bill Neal, Paul Papas, Gary Papas and Anthony Pellegrini.Special guests at the banquet were Neile Kelsey, park board president; Jeff Boubelik, park district superintendent of recreation, and I^en Murphy.
