Interest among the young athletes is reported high despite the many other activities that are draining off many of them. Bank staff competed in the recent golf tournament sponsored by the bank’s Citizen Division.Herb Auest, came home with a 71, after handicaps were computed, good enough for third low gross and a sport shirt. Bill Eaton and Merrill Finerty also were among the 33 Riverside County golfers taking part in the tournament at the Victoria Golf Club in Riversid%4Owen Muchisky, Corona High baseballer, has decided to give up the diamond sport rather than risk further injury to his already battered knees. He tore some ligaments loose in a knee earlier this season, and a doctor has advised him that another injury might complicate the condition.Owen, a peppery little outfielder for Coach Burr Atte-bury, first injured one knee as a junior in 1957 playing football. That sidelined him for quite awhile. Then during the past grid season the other one was hurt. Again he was out of commission.You can’t blame him for being leary about any more lumps to those knees. . i* * * * ** ^ * ■'Virg Hall, Panther cage and tennis coach, tried his hand on the diamond yesterday afternoon, chucking bat-• ting practice for the varsity. Hall, an infielder in college, had a pretty fair assortment of pitches for the players to look over.
