These were in addition to hotel rooms which were sold out lone before the tournament; However, it was pointed out that while there were never calls /or these rooms, many persons who might have used tlietn un-* doubtedly drove to Cedar Rapids without asking for beds in Iowa City. Most of the calls for rooms were from groups ranging up lo 12 persons, All calls were filled.* * *Competing teams, unless they preferred other arrangements, were housed m Iowa City hotels. Average cost for double .rooms in the city was SL50 to 52*50 and slightly higher in hotels. Thus, only 70 per cent oC the available rooms were used despjte the fact that approximately 61,000 persons, 21,000 more than ever before had seen the tournament, attended Hie seven sessions. George A. Brown, executive secretary of the Iowa High School Athletic association, said that these figures were unofficial but undoubtedly were as good an estimate as could be made.He pointed out that several hundred reserved seats were sold and that it was impossible to know how many o£ these were used at each session-* * *Official receipts were $17,306,33 as reported by the high school aihletic association, or only S89.1 mare than was taken in at the 1939 tournament in Des Moines. This was traced to the fact that some 12,000 high school •..student# were-admitted /or -25: cents a -session^ whereas they were charged full adult prices heretofore. One of the reasons /or transferring the tournament la the University of Iowa7s fieldhouse was to enable the admittance of high school students at popular prices, impossible in past years because seating arrrangements were at a premium.tipoithiAtthjstafrobalcotAllteaIsvUtheini]itigtheuncseathJtitilacorliiIMaWaterphiantheDaiadlt;otliarc(Doanlt;wil1£02sc!115Jgoitealiorocthediesta(Lavelt;of
