Monday when ninety Portsmouth .high school athletes, attired In football togs, will take the field to start the annual spring grid practice. Odor of moth balls permeated the school dressing rooms Saturday when the managers of the teams issued equipment to the young hopefuls.The P. H. S. Trojans face one of the stiffest schedules on record. So far six home games and three out oftown games have been booked for the 1931 season. Officials are making an effort to book another game.The Trojans’ schedule will start September 19 when they meet theirneighboring rival New Boston in this lt;ity. On the season's romp for grid honors they will meet three high school teams that have never before trod a Portsmouth field. All three of the schools, Hamilton, Wayne. W. Ya* and Cincinnati Withrow boast of strong football teams and are rated among the best in the state.Four teams played by Portsmouth last year are not on this season’s schedule. They are Ashland, Ky., Marietta, Zanesville and Athens. Marietta, Zanesville and Athens claim that the Portsmouth clubs are too strong for the teams coming from their schools and withdrew their contracts.
