Brashears Hurls Terps To 3-1 WinCOLLEGE PARK, Md. (UPI) — Mike Brashears struck out 10 batters, most of them in the clutch, to pitch Maryland to a 3-1 win over Duke at Shipley Field Saturday.Brashears gave up a run on a walk, single and infield grounder in the first inning and shut the Blue Devils out after that while striking out 10. Nine of the whiffs came in the last six innings.Duke had runners on third in the fifth, seventh and ninth innings and each time Brashears came up with a strikeout.Billy Owens tied the game with a leadoff homer in the second, sophomore Mark Poehlman singled in Ken Buch in the fourth for one run and doubled in Robert Oswald in the eighth.Bob Michael scoredDuke’s run with a first inning walk, took third on Larry Doby’s single and scored on an infieldgrounder by George Gawdun.Carl Nelson went the distance for Duke, giving up only six hits, walking one and allowing only eight baserunners.A stolen base by Ken Buch set up Maryland’s winning run as he led off with a walk and Poehlman then singled to right. Oswald led off the eighth with a single and took second on a wild pitch before Poehlman doubled down the right field line.
